Under the patronage of Prof. Yasser MagdyHatata, President of the University, and Prof. ArafaSabri, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, a research team from the Faculty of Engineering, Fayoum University, under the supervision of Prof.SherifMuhammadSabri Al-Attar, Dean of the Faculty, designed and built a renewable energy plant powered by solar panels and a meteorological station for research and scientific purposes, which were built on top of the Norias Hotel of Fayoum University on the shore of QarunLake. This comes within the activities of a research project funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund in cooperation with the British Council entitled "Optimal Design of Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems for Tourist Facilities in Fayoum Governorate". The project's research team includes Dr. Suzan Abdel-Hadi, the principal researcher of the project, Dr. Ahmed Shaaban, the deputy principal researcher, and assistant research members from the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty.
The project is in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to achieve sustainable development in various sectors of the country and spread cultural awareness on the issue of renewable energy in the tourism sector, which is one of the most important sources of national income for Egypt. The project also targets the idea of green tourism that is environmentally friendly, by relying on renewable energy sources that do not pollute the environment, help reduce carbon emissions in the tourism sector, and reduce climate change.
