| The Conference Room at the Building of Electrical Engineering Department hosted t a two-day workshop on how to use the digital library. The event was inaugurated by President of Fayoum University Ahmed El Gohary, Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Research Mohammed El Khaleely Barakat, and Dean of Faculty of Engineering Hany Ahmed Al Ghazaly. A number of high-profile staff attended the opening ceremony, namely Vice-President for Education and Students’ Affairs Ahmed Yusuf Al-Kady, Vice-President for Community Service and Environment Development Abdul Hamid Abdul Tawab Sabry, Director of Automated Libraries Project Wael Taha Aldahshoory, Teaching Assistant at Department of Libraries and Information Science at Ain shams University Ahmed Al-Sedawy, Coordinator of Automated Libraries Project at the Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) Tamer Tawfik, and Eng. Samy Abdel Kader, representative of Alex Center for Multimedia and Libraries (ACML). “The objective of this workshop is to highlight the importance of the Digital Library Project and how to make use of its services, illustrating how to access it,” Dr. Wael Aldahshoory said. “To increase the number of subscribers, a big number of workshops must be held”, Professor El Gohary commented. Regarding this matter, Professor El Khaleely said that the University had an ambitious plan being implemented since March 2008. “The world has become a small village thanks to the internet, so the digital library is a step towards flourishing scientific research at Fayoum University”, Professor Al Ghazaly stated. Following, the workshop started its activities. “Now, we have a sharp leap in the number of users and subscribers to the Digital Library compared to the past”, Mr. Ahmed Al Sedawy explained. Then, he talked about the Egyptian Universities' Libraries Consortia (EULC), its phases and advantages. “The EULC has made international databases and electronic books accessible. This, of course, helps rationalize the expenses of research in terms of buying annuals and periodicals”, he added. After that, Mr. Tamer Tawfik reviewed the projects incubated by the EULC, namely Digital Library Consortia, Egyptian University Libraries Automation, Future Library System Development , and the Electronic Theses and Dissertation Database. He also mentioned the components of the Digital Library – electronic portal and electronic information resources. The second day began with a lecture given by Eng. Samy Abdel Kader who highlighted the way to access the Digital Library from anywhere. He pointed out that there is a unique link to access the library from home: www.eulc.edu.eg .
