 Fayoum University Celebrates World Kidney Day |

| Fayoum University hosted a 2012 World Kidney Day event on Thursday 8th of March 2012. The event took place at Said Soliman Hall. The event was attended by Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab, President of Fayoum University, Dr. Nabil Farouk, a famous Egyptian Novelist, Professor Ashraf Hussein, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Professor Maher Al Amir, Chair, Department of Internal Medicine, Dr. Ehab Abdel Badie, Chair, the Unit of Nephrology, deans, vice-deans and medical students. It is worth mentioning that the World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. It is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of March in more than 100 countries on 6 continents. In his remarks, the University President said that among the main objectives of the WKD were to stress the role of local and national health authorities in controlling the kidney diseases, to raise awareness with different kidney diseases, and to encourage preventative behaviours. He also stressed the need for a legislation that prohibits organ trafficking, calling for reconsidering the health conditions of the Egyptian society. He moreover revealed that the Fayoum Faculty of Medicine would focus its research programs on detecting health problems common in the governorate as a step to find cures for them. Dr. Ashraf Hussein emphasized the need to create awareness among the citizens of Fayoum with that epidemic. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Maher Al Amir highlighted the causes and symptoms of renal failure, adding that early detection of kidney diseases saved the patients from dialysis and transplant. Dr. Ehab Abdel Badie stressed the need to promote kidney and organ donations to save lives of kidney patients, adding that kidney donor and the patient, who had a kidney transplant, led a normal healthy life. At the end, Dr. Nabil Farouk told his story with kidney transplant, urging everyone to support people with renal failure. |
