Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, received Major General Hafez Mahmoud Hassan, former Assistant Head of the Operations Authority and Fellow of the Higher War College at the Military and Strategic Academy, in the presence of Prof. Arafa Sabry Hassan, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Assem El-Essawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Supervisor of the Education and Students Sector, Prof. Wael Toubar, General Coordinator of Student Activities at the University, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Coordinator of the Students for Egypt Family, on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the conference hall of the Central Library.
This event was part of a symposium on October and the New Republic organized by the Students for Egypt Family and the University Student Union, in cooperation with the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector. Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata presented the university shield to Major General Hafez Mahmoud Hassan.
During the symposium, Prof. Assem El-Essawy explained that the October War came to confirm the determination of the Egyptian people and their strong will to reclaim occupied land, recover from the defeat of 1967, and rebuild and equip the army anew under difficult economic and social conditions. He noted that this war changed many concepts of warfare, as the enemy had superiority in various aspects; however, the Egyptian army was able to achieve victory, demonstrating the Egyptian ingenuity in its management.
He urged the youth to maintain the nation’s capabilities, protect it, feel a sense of belonging to it, and confront the widespread rumors, emphasizing that the main goal of organizing such symposiums is to raise awareness among youth and build their minds.
For his part, Major General Hafez Mahmoud Hassan discussed the significant efforts made by the Egyptian army under President Sadat's leadership in preparation and readiness for the October War of 1973, highlighting the many strategic military plans, studies, training, and political maneuvers that took place over six years leading to the glorious victory.
He pointed out that the plan and timing of the war were chosen precisely to surprise the enemy and disrupt its ranks, thereby achieving victory. He affirmed that Egyptian genius was evident in breaching the impregnable Bar Lev Line using water jets in less than six hours, as well as the decisive battle of the Egyptian Air Force, which defeated its Israeli counterpart and inflicted heavy losses on October 14, 1973.
He urged the youth to maintain the victory achieved through their belonging to the homeland and their awareness of the value of Egypt’s rich civilization and history. He also warned them to be cautious of fifth-generation warfare aimed at undermining stability and spreading false information, advocating for equipping themselves with knowledge and education to take up leadership roles in the future.
He noted the efforts made to combat terrorism and misinformation, striving towards building the Egyptian state through various projects such as the National Roads Project, the development of slums, and the construction of the New Administrative Capital, affirming that Egypt is steadily advancing towards economic growth and overcoming all challenges it faces.
