Few weeks ago, Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab was appointed as Interim President of Fayoum University. On Oct. 10, in his first lengthy interview with members from the Cultural Club since the appointment, Sabry spoke about his biography and plans for the coming years. Excerpts: Can we have a quick look on your biography? I hold degrees from universities of Ain Shams, Benha and Zagazig. I also managed to establish myself at Ain Shams University. Then I moved to Fayoum University. Now, I serve as the interim president of Fayoum University. What do you think of the current events in Egypt? Allah blessed us with the January 25th Revolution which we must make use of in order to build a democracy in Egypt. What we need is stability and hard work so as to regain our good reputation as a tourist destination. What has made the Egyptian parliamentary elections a success? First of all, we are very optimistic about the results of the January 25th Revolution which paved the way to free and fair elections. Here, in our university we are proud that we conducted elections to choose the deans of the faculties of Dar Al Uloom, Arts, and Agriculture. How will you handle students’ problems? Every single professor has a role in academic counseling through doing his/her best to solve as many problems as he/she could. As university administrators, we always try to solve any potential problems. Sometimes I meet with parents to find solutions to any problems. Also, the Youth Welfare Department is tasked to deal with students’ problems. What will you do to help Fayoum University gain an international reputation? At first, we should cooperate together to improve the stature of our university. Everyone should play his role. We can enhance our university through: 1-Activating cooperation relations with all other Arab and international universities. 2-Making Fayoum University an electronic one. 3-Eradicating computer illiteracy through helping students earn ICDL certification. 4-Holding a variety of seminars, symposia, and conference that address contemporary issues. 5- Activating the role of our university in teaching Arabic Language as a second language for non-Arabic speakers. 6-Creating cooperation with Fayoum Governor to set up an outlet to sell the products of our university. |
