University President meets Dar Al Uloom officials, discusses problems |

President of Fayoum University Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab convened Monday with a delegation from the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom at the University Council Hall, whereby they discussed the latest developments regarding the Continuous Improvement and Qualifying for Accreditation Project (CIQAP). The meeting also discussed the problems which exist at the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom. The meeting was attended by Professor Farid Awad Hedar, dean, Faculty of Dar Al Uloom, vice-deans, chairs of departments, and director of Quality Assurance Unit. The meeting opened with a welcome note delivered by Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab in which he talked about his good relations with the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom and their outstanding achievements in the field of quality assurance when he was serving as a vice-president for community service and environment development. He also said that Professor Rezk Al-Shamy was assigned to arrange for this meeting to tackle the problems which face the faculty in its move to be accredited. Speaking during the meeting, Professor Farid Awad said: "We truly thank Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab for giving us this opportunity to discuss our problems." Following, Dr. Yasser Hashish, director of Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), talked about the problems which hinder the Faculty of Dar Al Uloom from going ahead to attain accreditation. He also said: "We can solve our problems through rebuilding trust and re-establishing our project with the help of technical support, continuous follow-up and dissemination of a culture of quality." Then, he reviewed the needs of the faculty which include lecture halls, labs, library, clinic, and toilets. Commenting on the report issued by Director of QAU, Professor Rezk Al-Shamy said: "We have realized some educational affectivity standards, but we need more and more work. So, we should cooperate together to build the institutional capacity of our school through getting technical and logistic support." After that, Professor Rabie Abdel Aziz took the floor. He spoke about the problems which face students' affairs, particularly within the context of the Integrated Management Program. On his turn, Dr. Salah Nawar talked about the problems of the postgraduate studies regulation which adopts the credit hour system. He also underlined the importance of establishing a center for Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages (TASOL) as well as a phonetics laboratory for other languages. Moreover, Dr. Walid Al Shimy tackled an important issue regarding the CIQAP. He said" "The Faculty of Dar Al Uloom was able to apply for the CIQAP, but unfortunately it was deprived of this right." Responding to this comment, Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab said: "We should go ahead, and let bygones be bygones." The meeting also included some debates around topics relevant to teaching assistants, assistant lecturers as well as postgraduate studies regulation. |
