 Seminar highlights Civic Engagement and Leadership Development |

| The Faculty of Education held a seminar on "Civic Engagement and Leadership Development Project", a collaborative initiative between Fayoum University, Egypt, and University of Maryland, USA. The seminar was organized in the Training Room on Wednesday 11/1/2012. A big number of high-profile faculty attended the seminar, namely Dr. Mohamed Abo El-Nour, Vice Dean for Education and Students' Affairs and Project Coordinator, Dr. Ahmed Sayed Abdel Fattah, Lecturer, Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Education, and Dr. Amal Gomaa Abdel Fattah, Lecturer, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Faculty of Education. Some 45 school teachers attended the seminar, too. The seminar shed light on the primary goal of the project which is to offer an ideal opportunity for Fayoum University to realize it’s mission of preparing Egyptian students (future leaders) to be effective teachers and professionals and to empower them to take responsibility as citizens and community leaders for civic engagement, strengthening civil society and promoting Service Learning and Leadership in Egyptian society. The project introduced several innovative concepts, experiences, and skills to the Fayoum University and school teachers (trainers) who took these concepts back to their schools and disseminated them to a wide audience. Moreover, the seminar focused on the importance of service learning and civic education. Also, the projects which were implanted during the project's first year were tackled. Other issues such as tolerance, belonging, democracy, citizenship, political participation, freedom of expression, and political and social awareness were touched. |
