Engineering Students Celebrate January 25 Revolution |

Fayoum University students, in conjunction with engineering students and Future Leaders Group organized a festive celebration on " January 25 Revolution". A bevy of dignitaries attended the event. Key among them were Retired Major General Taiseer Al-Tobgy; Major General Mustafa Hassan; Major General Abdullah Al-Sary; Brigadier General Osama Abdul-Alim; and Human Rights Activist Mr. Essam Sheha, member of the Wafd's Supreme Authority. The event featured paying tributes to the families of the revolution's martyrs, namely: Ahmed Abdul-Atty; Nasreldin Ewis, and Yasser Kamal Tamam. Moreover, the event was graced by the presence of high-profile figures including Dr. Mohammad Anwar, professor of Hadith at Al-Azhar University and Imam of Abu-Dawood Mosque; and Bishop Antonius, pastor of Mary Gerges Church, as well as a host of media men. The event was also enlivened by some poems of Hesham Al-Gakh, followed by a commentary about the revolution, its martyrs and the most important events that occurred during it. Taking the floor, Professor Ayman Shahin, dean of Faculty of Engineering delivered his speech in which he welcomed the audience and thanked them for attending. He also stressed the role played by the Armed Forces to safeguard the revolution. He also reviewed the role to be played by young people during the upcoming stage, calling for solidarity, unity and cooperation among all Egyptians. On behalf of the Armed Forces, retired Major General Taiseer Al-Tobgy talked about the bravery of the Egyptian people and the armed forces in response to the invaders which was best represented during October War. "For us, the 25 January Revolution was another paradigm shift to a much more promising future awaiting the country", he commented. "All credit to the Egyptians who came forward in unprecedented numbers to peacefully exercise their newly won freedoms and participated in the referendum process, which has never seen such a huge turnout," he added. On his turn, Mr. Essam Sheha talked briefly about the Constitution and the importance of disseminating knowledge of the Egyptian law and Constitution among the young. Following, the families of the revolution's martyrs were received with great hospitality and appreciation for them and their children who sacrificed their lives for Egypt's future. Then Dr. Mohammad Anwar talked about the status of martyrs in the Koran and what Allah has prepared for them. He also tackled the integration of religions and faiths which came to complement each other, calling for national unity and unity of all Egyptian people. After that, Bishop Antonius talked about national unity and the national fabric and how Islam has embraced Christianity since the arrival of Islam to Egypt under Amr ibn al-Aas. Furthermore, singer Diaa Mohamed Ibrahim performed a song of Mishary Rashid which thrilled the event. Also, poet Mohammed Yasin performed a poem written by Dr. Ehab Al-Mokrani. The poem won great acceptance and applause. On the other hand, Sheha responded to questions and inquiries raised by the audience about the future of political life in Egypt and the presidential Wafd candidate. The event closed with a documentary about the January 25 Revolution. |
