In the fame of the Cultural Season of the academic year 2008/2009, Community Service and Environmental Development Sector organized on Wednesday 6/5/2009 a symposium titled "Arab Contractors Co. and Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab…..a story of success and love". Held at the Grand Convention Hall, the symposium was graced by the presence of President of Fayoum University Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Gohary. It was organized under the direction of Vice-President for Community Service and Environmental Development Prof. Dr. Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab Sabri and attended by Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Research Prof. Dr. Mohammed El Khaleely, Dean of Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Hany Al Ghazaly, and Eng. Nouh Meshref, Vice-President for Execution and Technical Affairs, the Arab Contractors Company, as well as a number of the faculty staff and students. The symposium commenced with a welcome note by Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Gohary in which he welcomed the symposium keynote speaker Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab, Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company and Chief Executive Officer. He also welcomed the attendants and clarified the role of the Arab Contractors Company in the renaissance of modern Egypt, praising the company's role in building the High Dam, which is the modern pyramid of Egypt. "This symposium," he added," is held by the University to provide successful models for students." Then, Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab spoke to the attendants. He expressed his great pleasure to meet students of Fayoum University. "The goal of the symposium is not what it seems to be a narration of my autobiography. No, it will focus on the future status of the Egyptian engineer after graduation," he added. "Universities combine the finest minds of the community ", he noted," and all the attention is directed to Fayoum University as it is a newly born university. This is what has made the Arab Contractors Company be open to all the university students in the summer season of training." The attendants, on their part, listened cautiously to the Eng. Ibrahim's speech, which reflected his widely diversified experience. He also tackled the achievements of the Arab Contractors Company and voiced his vision of the architects of the future. After that, a documentary on Eng. Osman Ahmed Osman, the founder of the Arab Contractors, was screened. The documentary dealt with the history of the company, its achievements, its projects inside and outside Egypt, the administrative structure of the company, its goals, its vision and mission, and the company's branches in most Arab and African countries. At the end of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El Gohary unveiled a proposal, which will be decided upon in the near future, to build an Institute of Technology in the land of New Fayoum City in cooperation with Arab Contractors Company. He also gave the University Shield to Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab, in recognition of his career in the field of building and construction.
