  24-Oct-2011

Five people running for the position of dean of the Faculty of Engineering appeared at a “Meet the Candidates” seminar Monday at the Conference Hall. Talk of the financial improvements for the teaching staff, the leverage of resources and the promotion of the faculty’s stature dominated most of the candidates’ speeches. Professor Hazem Ali Attia said his decisions will be based on the results of opinion polls among the faculty staff members. My first priorities are justice and impartiality, he said. Also, he pronounced his interest in issuing a scientific journal covering the subjects of engineering. He also focused on conducting elections when selecting senior administrators. After that, Professor Sameh Ahmed Galal took the floor. My platform is a three-tier program consisting of: developing the faculty, financial transparency, and giving due care to the faculty staff members, he said. Professor Mohammad Shokr Nada stressed the importance of integration among the faculty’s three sectors, namely education, students’ affairs, graduates studies and community service with the aim of increasing the funds of the faculty. “My mode of administration is based on the concept of consultation via a board of wise men”, he added. Professor Hesham Aref said he would keep working on educational issues with officials. He also proposed creating a panel of consultants to be in charge of running the school affairs as well as helping the dean make big decisions. He also presented a strategic plan based on some cornerstone points including modernizing the library, labs, and units and attaining job satisfaction. At the end, Professor Mohammad Issa emphasized the importance of giving faculty staff members al due care and support to help them lead a good life. He also pointed out to his keenness on solving students’ problems through paying regular visits to lecture halls and administrative offices.
