The Faculty of Engineering held its first election to choose its dean on Saturday but no single candidate won a simple majority of votes, the Elections Commission said. Five candidates were vying for the position of dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Candidates were Dr. Hazem Ali Attia, Chair of Department of Mathematics and Engineering Physics; Professor Sameh Ahmed Galal, Chair of Department of Civil Engineering; Professor Mohammad Shokr Nada, Professor of Architectural Engineering; Professor Mohammad Issa Sayed, vice-dean for Education and Students’ Affairs; and Professor Hesham Mahmoud Aref, vice-dean for Community Service and Environment Development. No candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote, forcing a runoff. Attia brought in 26.56 percent while Galal garnered 25.41 percent. A third candidate, Mohammad Issa Sayed, received 11.22 percent of the vote, not enough to earn him a place on the runoff ballot. Next Monday's runoff will pick a final winner. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Registration Gallery Voting Event Gallery Ballot Counting Gallery |
