The First Annual Conference on Gastroenterology and Hepatology opened in Fayoum with an address by President of Fayoum University Professor Abdel Hamid Abdel Tawab Sabry. The event was held under the auspices of Dr. Fouad Al-Nawawy, minister of Health. The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Ashraf Hussein. The two-day conference was held on 2-3 February 2012; it was organized by the Fayoum Network for Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the Unit of Hepatology and Endemic Diseases of the Fayoum University’s Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with the Egyptian Society for Fevers (ESF), and the Egyptian Society for Fevers (ESF). It addressed the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic hepatitis C, diseases of the digestive system, and hepatic tumors. The conference started with a minute's silence for the victims of Egypt's stadium disaster. In his remarks, University President expressed his sadness and sorrow for the riot which followed a football match in Port Said leaving a number of casualties. Tackling the fact that Fayoum contains the highest prevalence of hepatitis C and Schistosomiasis in Egypt, he declared: "An Institute for Gastroenterology and Hepatology will be established in Fayoum to provide a comprehensive medical service to each single person of Fayoum infected with any hepatic viruses." It is worth mentioning that Eng. Ahmed Ali, Governor of Fayoum, attend the activities of the second day of the conference. Gallery of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference |
