Contracting for a Meteorological Station at Fayoum University from research project funding from STDF and British council

7-9-2020
On the 7th of September 2020, the Faculty of Engineering at Fayoum University, represented by the faculty dean Prof. Sherif Elattar, has signed a contract with Firnas Shuman Company, represented by Eng. Ahmed Salah (Project Manager), regarding the installation of a meteorological station for research purposes in the field of renewable energy. The meteorological station will be installed at the Regional Training Center of Fayoum University which is located on the shore of Qaroun’s Lake.
This station represents one of the outcomes of the research project entitled: “Optimal design of hybrid renewable energy systems for tourism facilities in the Fayoum Governorate”, which is supported by Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF) and British Council within the framework of Newton-Mosharafa Fund-Institutional Links grants.

This project aims to assess the potential of biomass, wind and solar resources in Fayoum, develop prediction models for these resources, propose HRES configurations for tourism facilities, determine their optimal designs and establish a local prototype for demonstration and research purposes.
The research project encompasses a research team from the Faculty of Engineering (Electrical Engineering & IE Specializations), led by Dr. Suzan Abdelhady (Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering Department), and a research team from Imperial College London (ICL), led by Prof. Christos N. Markides (Professor of Clean Energy Technologies, and the Head of Clean Energy Processes (CEP) Laboratory at ICL).
