1- Post-Doctoral Fellowship in R&D Department of Pre-Clinical Immunology at GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals in Rixensart, Belgium: Rixensart, Belgium

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Biologicals, a worldwide leader in vaccine development, is committed to innovation especially in the field of adjuvant science and human immunology. In this context, GSK Biologicals intends to initiate a post-doctoral fellowship (2 years) at its Research & Development Department of Pre-clinical Immunology in Rixensart, Belgium.

The main goal of this program is to investigate correlates of protection for viral diseases (i.e. seasonal and pandemic influenza) induced following vaccination.

*IMMUNE CORRELATES FOR PROTECTION AGAINST INFLUENZA INFECTION *(Project Leaders: S. Giannini and B. Baras)
The aim of this project is to define and compare the determinants of the innate and/or adaptive pathways that lead to natural or vaccine induced protection from influenza infections using various animal models. The developments of new immunological read-outs including cellular mediated immune responses will be an essential aspect of the work. This project will support the design of innovative adjuvanted vaccines capable of inducing protective immunity against influenza infection.

Applicants should hold PhD in immunology or any related fields (e.g. innate immunity, vaccinology, virology). Technical expertise with flow cytometry, virus neutralization assays and cell culture would be appreciated.

The program will be funded by a European People Marie-Curie program. Post-doc fellowship and could start as soon as June 2011.
Candidates are invited to send their CV and a cover letter explaining their motivation by e-mail to any.henri@gskbio.com by May 30, 2010. Interviews and selection of candidates will be made by June 30 at the latest.

All questions regarding the eligibility and the administrative context of the fellowship can be sent to francoise.javaux@gskbio.com

3- Scientists - Immunology: Cambridge, United Kingdom

Responsibilities
Lonza is currently looking to recruit scientists to join our Advanced Protein Technologies (APT) department, based in Cambridge (UK), to expand our capacity and service offering portfolio.

Scientists will be part of a multidisciplinary research and expertise team focusing on therapeutic antibodies, protein and peptide discovery and in the immunoprofiling and developability assessment of therapeutic proteins and vaccines. APT is a first class research centre with innovative computational and experimental technologies which are applied to unravel protein immunogenicity, stability and aggregation problems, characterise protein-peptide interactions and engineer safer and better biotherapeutics.

*Junior Lab Scientist
In expanding the capacity of our lab services and immunogenicity screening platfoin cellular assay development and a strong background in immunology, we are seeking a Junior Lab Scientist. The role holder will proactively support the standardization and optimization of assays and be involved in the communication with Lonza's customers.

*Senior Scientist
In expanding our in vitro immunogenicity screening platform, we are seeking a Senior Immunologist with experience in assay design and a strong background in cellular immunology.

Requirements
Ideally, candidates will have an MSc or equivalent, and have prior industrial experience in cell culture, flow cytometry and immunological techniques such as ELISPOT. Prior experience with assay design would be advantageous.

For the Senior Scientist role, the candidate will have a Ph.D. in cellular immunology, published extensively in the fields of antigen presentation and adaptive immunity. Strong skills in immunological techniques, flow cytometry and cellular biology are essential.
Candidates must be willing to travel and build contacts with diverse R&D centres worldwide.

The ideal candidates will have excellent communication and project management skills and will drive projects forward by employing excellent scientific insight and result-driven approaches. Candidates must be able to take advantage of a multidisciplinary and scientifically challenging environment whilst endeavouring to develop innovative methodologies for the assessment of immunological responses to biotherapeutics.

Lonza offers a pleasant, dynamic, employee orientated environment and we take pride in both the quality of our products and the success of our employees. We offer a competitive remuneration package and encourage the development of individuals to help them achieve their full potential.
