Synopsis

Higher Education Institutions are the beacon of knowledge and learning in society. They are seen as 'a stronghold of the human mind in its highest level and source of investment and development of society's precious wealth i.e. human resources. The university teacher is the most important element of higher education system as he is assigned to execute the most important roles (education, scientific research and community service. Moreover, his performance is a yardstick of the quality of services provided by educational institutions. Therefore, the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE) has decided to set out a framework of national reference standards for higher education practice which the higher education institutions should meet.

First Field: Education

-First Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in his area of specialization?

-Second Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in planning the educational process?

-Third Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in methodology of teaching?

-Fourth Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in all education skills?

-Fifth Standard: To what extent the University Teacher should be versed in managing the educational situation

-Sixth Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in all skills of evaluation and assessment?

-Seventh Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in planning, managing and developing educational programs?

-Eighth Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher versed in skills and means of promoting students academically and socially?

Second Field: Scientific Research:

Standard: To what extent is the University Teacher distinguished as a scientific researcher in his area of specialization?

Third Field: Community Service

First Standard: The University Teacher's contribution to promoting the local environment of his community.

Second Standard: The University Teacher's commitment to the social, religious and university norms and values.

Fourth Field: Administrative Aspects & Professional Development

First Standard: The University Teacher should possess skills of successful management and leadership.

Second Standard: The University Teacher should assume the responsibilities of professional development.
