About Department

Department Synopsis
Department of Microbiology and Immunology is one of the departments that entertains the students as it allows them to enter the world of microbiology and its impact on man and the environment. In order to achieve this the student is taught basics of microbiology & immunology; pharmaceutical microbiology; medical microbiology; pharmaceutical biotechnology, and public health, beside the science of cell biology. The department also oversees the teaching parasitology and pathology, as well as cooperation in the field of teaching activity between the department and the rest of the microbiology departments of various Pharmacy colleges in many Egyptian Universities.

The aim of teaching in the department is to build the basics for the student in microbiology (Microbiology and Immunology), where students receive lectures and practical lessons in the fundamentals of this science alongside sciences of the cell biology and the pathophysiology. By teaching the course of pharmaceutical microbiology the students will understand the concept of antimicrobial drugs used for treatment of resistant microbes, also, most of sterilization methods and its advantages and importance. Then the student is moved on to study the course of medical microbiology which deals with the study of types of infectious diseases and their causative microbes beside methods of prophylaxis, prevention and treatment.

Furthermore, biotechnology course, which deals with the principles and concepts of biotechnology and genetic engineering. Its applications make human life easier in getting many of the products at a low cost by the use of the biological systems and the use of microbial products for this purpose, while teaching in public health science course; the student will understand the concept of epidemic diseases (communicable diseases) and non-communicable ones in terms of prevalence and its relation to public health, nutrition and environmental factors as well as the various effects and methods of prevention and prophylaxis.
Department Mission:
Create key knowledge in microbiology and immunology, and control of microorganisms.
by teaching these courses students will build a strong understanding of the rapid developments in industrial microbiology and biotechnology, and pharmaceutical microbiology beside the development of technical thinking skills and ethical behavior.
