Fayoum University observed World Environment Day (WED) through participating in an event held by the University in conjunction with Fayoum Agro Organic Development Association (FAODA), and a telecom company. The event took place on Tuesday 9/6/2015 at the Exploration Center for Science and Technology at Demo City, Fayoum.
The event was inaugurated by Wael Makram, Governor of Fayoum, in the presence of Prof. Farid Awad Hedar, Vice President for Community Service and Environment Development, Eng. Omar Al-Masry, Chairman of FAODA, undersecretaries of the Ministries of Agriculture, Irrigation and Education, in addition to some businessmen and other high-profile figures.
The event featured presentations about some environmental-oriented projects, the compost mobile unit, the latest irrigation systems, biogas unit which have been carried out by FAODA, and the latest practicable innovations designed by Fayoum University, the Minia University's Faculty of Engineering and Orange Research Labs.
Commenting on the event, Governor Makram said that the government, NGOs and citizen are all partners in development and they should unite to face such environmental challenges as rubbish, and pollution. He also added that the Governorate is adopting a serious strategy to preserve the environment through enhancing wastewater stations, water desalination stations and launching daily clean-up campaigns.
In the same context, Vice President Hedar highlighted the university's role in preserving the environment through campaigns, seminar and incubating novel ideas relevant to environment protection, utilizing the latest techniques in water desalination and compost.
The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony to winners of environmental innovation competition.
