the university’s Anti-Violence Against Women Unit organized a seminar entitled “Women’s Empowerment”.

The speakers at the seminar were:

Ms. Iman Ahmed Zaki, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women (NCW) branch in Fayoum Governorate.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nohair Ramadan El-Shoushani, Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at Fayoum University.

Mr. Mohamed Mohy El-Din, Lawyer at the NCW Women’s Complaints Office.

The seminar aimed to introduce students and administrative staff to the role of the National Council for Women in Fayoum Governorate, as well as its awareness-raising workshops conducted in the villages of the governorate. The speakers highlighted the Council’s mission in empowering women economically, socially, and politically, and the positive impact of this empowerment on the entire family. They also outlined the services and activities provided by the Council, and the methods of communication that enable women to benefit from these services.

The seminar further emphasized the fruitful cooperation between the Council and the university’s Anti-Violence Against Women Unit in implementing various awareness activities and receiving cases that may require legal intervention by the Women’s Complaints Office lawyer when necessary.

During the seminar, the lawyer from the Women’s Complaints Office explained the different types of violence against women from a legal perspective, how to handle each case, and the legal penalties for each form of violence, whether occurring inside or outside the university. The hotline number 15115 was also introduced, along with the importance of contacting it promptly for advice or in cases of exposure to any form of violence.

The seminar concluded with an open and interactive discussion with participants regarding the challenges women may face within the family, in the street, or at the workplace, including individual or societal violence such as verbal abuse, harassment, insult, physical assault, early marriage, and other issues, and how such situations can be addressed appropriately.
