Under
the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, and
the supervision of Prof. Assem El-Essawy, Vice President for Community Service
and Environmental Development, Prof. Rania Shaaban, Director of the
University's Center for Students with Disabilities, noted the continuation of
the presidential initiative "Tamkeen" (Empowerment).
The
initiative's activities included the Center's participation in a workshop held
in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research,
the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Egyptian Special Olympics, entitled
"University Unity and Integration Day" The workshop aimed to raise
awareness about intellectual disabilities and how to interact with individuals
with disabilities.
The
event was attended by a number of students with hearing impairments from Fayoum
University. The university's deaf team—comprised of 11 students—participated in
several sports and won a football match.
The
activities also included a workshop on the fundamentals of sign language at the
Faculty of Specific Education, attended by faculty members, staff, and
students. The workshop aimed to teach the basics of sign language, the
alphabet, and common words to deaf students.
The
workshop was attended by Mr. Magid Girgis Sadek and Ms. Nada Fathy, certified
sign language trainers at Fayoum University.
