Opening of the Student Film Competition

افتتاح مسابقة أفلام الطُّلّاب

Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansary, Governor of Fayoum, and Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, Prof. Assem El-Essawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Sherif El-Attar, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, inaugurated the Student Film Competition. This competition is part of the second edition of the Fayoum International Film Festival for Environmental and Contemporary Arts, held in cooperation with the Ministries of Culture, Local Development, and Environment, the Fayoum Governorate, and Fayoum University. The inauguration was attended by Dr. Mohamed El-Touny, Deputy Governor of Fayoum; Prof. Wael Tobar, General Coordinator of Student Activities; many faculty members; artist Ahmed Magdy, the festival's artistic advisor; artist Ahmed Fathy, a member of the student film jury; Mr. Sayed Abdel-Khalek, the festival director; and a number of artists, media figures, and conference organizers. The event took place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in the university's Grand Celebration Hall.

Artist Ahmed Magdy emphasized the importance of student participation in these artistic events and showcasing their creative ideas. He called for the necessity of training and developing them, supporting talented students, and opening new horizons for them to launch their careers and excel.

For his part, artist Ahmed Fathy praised the organization of the festival in Fayoum Governorate, which is characterized by its artistic and cultural diversity and boasts numerous heritage sites. He urged students to continue working, learning, and believing in their abilities to achieve their goals.

It is worth noting that Fayoum University is the academic partner for the festival's activities, stemming from its role and commitment to supporting students and cultivating a new generation capable of expressing themselves and their community. This is achieved through offering free training workshops covering cinematography, editing, and directing, in addition to advanced workshops led by prominent filmmakers. The current edition of the festival has allocated financial prizes to support students and young filmmakers, a step that strengthens the establishment of the film industry in local communities, moving away from traditional artistic centralization.

It should be noted that the festival continues until November 30, and features 22 student films competing in a special festival program, in addition to a competition for feature films and short films.
