International Volunteer Day: Giving That Makes an Impact

Under the patronage of Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, and under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed El-Okaby, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for Strategic Communication, the Ministry's official spokesperson, and General Supervisor of Social Solidarity Units in Egyptian Universities, Prof. Assem El-Essawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Supervisor of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Sector, attended the activities of the International Volunteer Day celebration organized by the University's Social Solidarity Unit.

This took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in the auditorium of the Institute of Research and Strategic Studies for Nile Basin Countries. Also present were Mr. Abdel Nasser Bakry, General Director of Community Service and Environmental Development, Ms. Ghada Mostafa Sadeq, Director of the Office of the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Ms. Asmaa Abdel Qader, Director of the University's Social Solidarity Unit, the unit's team, and a number of students.

During his speech, Prof. Assem El-Essawy emphasized that volunteer work is a fundamental pillar in building awareness and responsibility among young people. He pointed out that volunteers represent a supporting force for Fayoum University's plans to serve the community and implement various development initiatives.

He also discussed several inspiring examples of student participation in community initiatives both within and outside the university, explaining mechanisms for supporting new volunteer ideas. He commended the role of the Social Solidarity Unit in establishing a culture of volunteering and providing real opportunities for students to participate and gain practical experience.

Prof. Assem El-Essawy stressed that volunteering is not a side activity but rather a fundamental element in building the character of university students, especially given the university's interest in its students who take initiatives and its commitment to providing a stimulating environment that enables them to play their role in community development projects. He called on students to continue working as a team, emphasizing that the value of volunteering is revealed when a young person leaves a real impact on their community.

The celebration was held as part of the Social Solidarity Unit's commemoration of International Volunteer Day, with the participation of a group of volunteers, to promote a culture of giving and cultivate values ​​of belonging and social responsibility within the university. The event also included a presentation of the "Volunteer Hours" program, which allows students to register their contributions according to clear criteria, thus helping to build an accurate database and support a culture of organized volunteering. The program aims to motivate students, develop their skills, and provide them with experiences that support their career paths.

The celebration concluded with the honoring of a group of outstanding volunteers in recognition of their contributions and efforts, with an emphasis on continued cooperation in implementing volunteer initiatives that serve university students and the local community.
