Faculty of Dar Al-Uloom Organizes Seminar on “Electronic Blackmail and Its Impact on Women and Society”

Under the patronage of Prof. Yasser Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, Prof. Sherif El-Attar, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and Supervisor of the Faculty of Dar Al-Uloom, attended a seminar entitled "Electronic Blackmail and its Impact on Women and Society." The seminar was organized by the Faculty's Combating Violence against Women Unit and was also attended by Prof. Essam Ameria, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Tahia Abdel-Tawab, Director of the Unit, and a number of faculty members, staff, and students. Dr. Mohamed Mohy El-Din, Head of the Complaints Office and a lawyer with the National Council for Women, presented at the seminar, which took place on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Faculty.

Prof. Sherif El-Attar emphasized the importance of being aware of both the advantages and disadvantages of technology, urging young people to adhere to ethical values ​​and principles and to refrain from harming their peers in any way.

He pointed out that Fayoum University organizes numerous seminars and workshops on this topic to raise awareness among the young, guide them on the right path, and inform them of the risks and legal consequences of misusing social media.

Prof. Essam Ameria also addressed the linguistic definition of the word "blackmail," explaining its meaning in Arabic as "to rape" or "to steal," and its meaning in other languages. He urged students to cooperate, focus on continuous learning, and acquire diverse life skills.

Prof. Tahia Abdel-Tawab highlighted the psychological impact of blackmail, including anxiety, stress, loss of self-confidence, sleep disturbances, guilt, self-criticism, and a loss of psychological security.

Dr. Mohamed Mohy El-Din discussed the role of the National Council for Women, its most prominent activities and initiatives, and its door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness about family planning, female genital mutilation, and other issues. He emphasized the importance of technological literacy for girls to combat online blackmail and pursue proper legal channels. He also explained the legal provisions outlining the penalties for online blackmail.
