Under
the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Hany Ghoneim, Governor of Fayoum, and Prof. Yasser
Magdy Hatata, President of Fayoum University, and under the supervision of Prof.
Assem Fouad El-Essawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service
and Environmental Development, a comprehensive medical and development convoy
was organized in the village of Lahoun on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
This
initiative was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Naglaa El-Sherbiny,
Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Lamia Ahmed Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty
of Oral and Dental Medicine, Dr. Nevin Shaaban, Undersecretary of the Ministry
of Health in Fayoum, and Eng. Mahmoud Hamdy, Chairman and Managing Director of
Fayoum Gas Company. It was carried out in cooperation with the Safe Woman Unit
at the Faculty of Medicine and the University's Community Problems Monitoring
Unit. Also in attendance were Mr. Abdel Nasser Bakry, Director General of the
General Administration for Community Service and Environmental Development, and
Eng. Mahmoud Abu Zahra, Director General of Occupational Safety and Health and
Supervisor of the Corporate Social Responsibility Program at Fayoum Gas Company.
Prof.
Assem El-Essawy confirmed that the medical convoy aimed to enhance the
healthcare and community services provided to underprivileged families and the
most needy villages. Medical examinations and free treatment were provided to
1,788 residents of Lahoun village and its surrounding villages, including 360
internal medicine cases, 76 dental cases, 385 dermatology cases, 410 pediatric
cases, 167 ear, nose, and throat cases, and 390 rheumatology cases. In
addition, necessary medical guidance and health awareness were provided to
those who visited the convoy.
During
the convoy, Prof. Heba Hussein, Director of the Safe Women Unit at the
university, addressed several community issues, including: early marriage and its
health and social consequences; the harms of female genital mutilation;
problems mothers may face during pregnancy and childbirth; the importance of
regular medical checkups and how to prevent genetic diseases; forms of violence
against women in rural Egypt and ways to address them; proper child-rearing;
the importance of girls completing their education; and the role of women in
managing family affairs.
The
Community Problems Monitoring Unit, under the supervision of Professor Basma
Abdel Latif, conducted a comprehensive field survey to identify the needs of
the village residents in the health, education, social, and various service
sectors. The survey also aimed to pinpoint the most significant challenges
related to infrastructure, job opportunities, and improving income levels, thus
contributing to the development of an accurate database to support local
development plans and enhance the quality of life.
Mr.
Abdel Nasser Bakry explained that the outreach initiative reflects Fayoum
University's commitment to strengthening its community role and actively
participating in presidential initiatives aimed at improving the level of
health and social services provided to citizens in various villages and
districts throughout the governorate.
