Prof. Abdel-Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, attended the opening ceremony of the 14th Universities and Higher Institutes Youth Week, hosted by Minia University. Prof. Sherif Mohamed Sabry El-Attar, Acting President of Fayoum University and Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, participated in the opening proceedings—held under the slogan "From the Heart of Upper Egypt... We Create"—alongside Major General Emad Kadwani, Governor of Minia; Dr. Essam Farhat, President of Minia University; many university presidents; officials from the ministry, governorate, and university; public figures; and students. The event took place on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The opening ceremony featured a variety of outstanding artistic and performance-based displays by the students.
It is worth noting that the 14th Universities and Higher Institutes Youth Week includes sports competitions in futsal, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, and padel, as well as scientific contests in mechatronics and electronics. The program also encompasses cultural, artistic, and social activities, awareness seminars, and field visits to archaeological sites and national projects in Minia Governorate, all aimed at fostering awareness of the nation's history and its civilizational and developmental assets. The week underscores the Egyptian state's commitment to supporting youth—viewed as a fundamental pillar in building the future—and to providing them with opportunities for competition, creativity, and the exchange of experiences. The event offers a broad platform for young people to compete, innovate, network, and share expertise. Notably, this edition marks the first time international students have been integrated into student activities alongside their Egyptian peers, thereby fostering communication and cultural and civilizational interaction among the participants.
Furthermore, these student activities contribute to the holistic development of the university student's character, enhancing their skills and capabilities while promoting values of cooperation, a sense of belonging, and teamwork. Emphasis is also placed on launching initiatives to support innovative, talented, and gifted students across all higher education institutions.
The week features a diverse program comprising sports, cultural, artistic, social, scientific, and scouting activities—including rover and public service programs—offering students opportunities to compete, innovate, exchange experiences, and develop teamwork skills. A total of 3,416 students, supervisors, and leaders representing 31 Egyptian universities are participating.
To conclude the proceedings, artist Mohamed Adawiya performed at the opening ceremony amidst a festive atmosphere.
