Development, attended a workshop titled "Session 5S" by Yazaki
Electric Systems, a Japanese company. The workshop was organized by the
Community Service and Environmental Development Sector in cooperation with the
General Administration of Human Resources. The workshop featured lectures by
Mr. Mogi Toshimi, the company's Regional Director, Mr. Ahmed Khaled Naja, the
company's Training and Development Director, and Mr. Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, the
company's Human Resources Director. The event was attended by a number of
faculty members, general managers, directors of departments and centers, heads
of administrative departments at faculties, and administrators. The event was
held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in the conference hall of the Institute
of Strategic Research and Studies for Nile Basin Countries at the university. Prof.
Assem El-Essawy met with representatives from Yazaki at Fayoum University,
explaining that the workshop falls within the framework of the protocol signed
between the university and Yazaki. He emphasized the importance of learning
about the 5S system and its applications, which aims to organize and develop
the work environment using available human and material resources. He also emphasized
awareness of how to maximize the use of these resources, especially in light of
the efforts to implement the mechanisms of this system, which are most evident
at the university's Faculty of Medicine.
Mr. Mogi
Toshimi also spoke about the general principles of the Japanese company Yazaki,
which include the desire to develop the surrounding community alongside the
desire to develop and grow the company. He also discussed the construction of
the company's first factory in Egypt, in Fayoum Governorate, and the parent
company's desire to expand the establishment of factories across various
governorates of the republic.
He pointed
out that the Japanese approach to using the 5S method has a positive impact on
the environment and society, and that the company is fully prepared to provide
training, assistance, and development. During the workshop, Mr. Ahmed Khaled
delivered a lecture introducing the 5S system as part of the Lean Manufacturing
tools, which leads to increased efficiency and reduced waste. He reviewed the
forms of waste in manufacturing, including transportation, storage, movement,
waiting, overproduction, unwanted additions, and finally, defects and errors.
He discussed
the concept of 5S, which includes five main principles beginning with the letter
S in English and the letter T in Arabic. These principles include
classification (sorting and removing unnecessary items), organization and
arrangement of items, cleaning (cleaning the workplace and environment),
standardization (establishing standardized procedures to maintain order), and
establishment and commitment (enhancing discipline to maintain the 5S culture).
The benefits of using 5S were also discussed, including improving efficiency
and productivity, enhancing safety, improving work quality, reducing costs, and
boosting employee morale, which gives customers a positive impression of the
workplace and environment. As for the places where 5S can be applied, they can
be found in offices, companies, factories, homes, and anywhere else, with the goal
of enhancing efficiency and public safety. During the workshop, a documentary
film was screened about the company, which was founded in 1929. It currently
employs 230,492 people worldwide, operates 50 locations in Europe and Africa,
83 locations in Asia, and 18 locations in the Americas. The company operates in
the field of electrical distribution systems, electrical measuring devices, and
high-voltage products. In January 2024, the company's foundation stone was laid
in Fayoum Governorate.
Finally, Prof.
Assem El-Essawy presented honorary shields to representatives of Yazaki.
